We got our start back in ’71, when one of us was invited by a contact from work who thought he might enjoy a few days up on a big lake. Turns out he was right! The very next year he came back with a group of eight. Although he wasn’ leading anything yet – just happy to be alonghe an – d one of the guys on that trip have been organizing these runs north ever since. From that point on, heading up twice a year became as natural as the seasons changing.
About twenty years back, a handful of the most dedicated among us pooled together and bought the cabin we use today. It’s like many other cabins – the outhouse is still out back, and there’s no AC unless you count a good breeze—but it’s definitely our fishing haven. The bragging book keeps filling up with big fish, and the kind of memories are made that you can’t make anywhere else. Sure, we’ve had our share of headaches like replacing the septic and dealing with whatever the weather feels like throwing at us – cold snaps, sweltering heat, sheets of rain with wind that swamps boats, or a little sleet just to keep you humble – but the fish never seem to mind, and we’re there to catch them.
What keeps everyone coming back are the little things that feel big up here: fish boils and fried fillets fresh from the lake, pan-fried potatoes crackling in the skillet, and pans of bars sent up by family who know the drill. Evenings settle in with a sauna, a hot shower, a well-used fish house, and whatever games or stories people feel like sharing that night. The bugs can be fierce and the comforts simple, but there’s something about this place – good company, honest food, and the steady bite on a quiet northern lake – that keeps the heart anchored, year after year.
Pack for it all – blazing sun, surprise rain, and those cold, windy days that make you question your life choices until a monster fish hits your line. The weather might keep you guessing, but the big ones are biting, so come ready for every forecast.
Bring a good GPS system that can chart the lake as you fish, dropping digital pins right where the big ones bite – no more guessing or arguing about 'that one spot by the rock.' Later, you can cruise straight back to your hotspots and remind those fish you still know their address.
Out here, the only signals you’ll find come from loons and leaping walleye – Wi-Fi doesn’t stand a chance. It’s the perfect excuse to unplug, unwind, and swap screen time for shoreline time.
Once you’ve signed up for your trip, we’ll send you a friendly email packed with everything you’ll need to reel in the big one – from fishing gear to bug spray (trust us on that one). It’s part packing list, part survival guide, and 100% your ticket to brag-worthy fish tales.
“These two trips up north felt like stepping into a different world. We laughed hard, fished harder, and somehow I still ended up with enough bragging material to keep the guys at work entertained for weeks. There’s something about that quiet water and good company that makes you want to come back every year.”
“Heading up to the cabin every year is the one time I get to shut off the noise, breathe that crisp northern air, and chase the kind of fish you tell stories about for years. That little one in the photo? Trust me – it’s nothing compared to the monsters we pulled in on this trip. After running a busy crew at work, those days on the lake are the reset button I look forward to all year.”
“Every summer, I load up the boat, round up a couple of good friends, and head north, to add a few more entries in the bragging book. Year after year, we manage to reel in moments worth remembering, and these trips are still the highlight of my year. There’s nothing quite like good company, a steady bite, and a quiet lake to remind you what’s worth slowing down for.”
